Hey all!
We’ve been making some exciting progress this week, especially around the weapon attachment system. It’s still in its early stages, but things are shaping up nicely, and I wanted to give you a behind-the-scenes look at where we’re at with it.
State of the Weapon Attachment System
At its core, the new weapon attachment system is designed to allow players to add various attachments (scopes, silencers, extended mags, etc.) to assigned weapon types. Right now, the system works by assigning specific attachment slots to certain weapons. Once a player attaches an item to a weapon, that attachment stays with the weapon when it’s moved to different inventories (whether it’s in a character’s backpack or a storage chest. It’s all still pretty rudimentary, but the foundation is there feeling great!
One of the key goals with this system is flexibility. Players can freely add or remove attachments as needed. This means if they find a better scope, for example, they can swap it out on the fly. Currently, the editing process involves manually selecting and replacing items via a basic menu system. It’s functional, but it’s definitely not the most intuitive way of handling attachments.
That being said, we’re planning to implement a more familiar drag-and-drop system in the future for easier attachment management. This will give players a visual representation of the weapon and its available attachment slots, making it easier to see what has been attached and what can be swapped out. Once that is in place, we’re hoping the whole process will feel much more fluid and user-friendly. It’s one of those things that will take some time, but I think the end result will be worth the effort!
What’s Next?
In the coming weeks, we’ll be refining the system and starting on the UI overhaul. If you have any thoughts or ideas that could help improve the system, feel free to drop us a comment. We’re always open to feedback that can make the game system better for everyone.
