Devlog: Day/Night Cycle

by | Devlog, Featured

Hey all,

We’re back this week to discuss the Day/Night Cycle System and excited to share some of the progress we’ve made, so, let’s dive in!

State of the Day/Night Cycle

Our main focus has been refining how time feels in-game. The idea was to make sure transitions between different times of day are smooth and immersive. We’ve tweaked the lighting system to allow for more subtle shifts in color and brightness as the sun rises and sets, so you’ll see that nice glow at dawn and the rich, warm hues at sunset. The moon and stars have also been polished up to add a more atmospheric night experience.

We’re working hard on making sure it all feels natural without sacrificing performance. The system will be highly customizable, so devs can tweak how fast the day progresses or create their own specific atmosphere for different times of day. Whether your game needs fast-paced day/night cycles or long, extended periods of night, you’ll be able to easily adjust it to fit your world.

What’s Next?

In the future, we’re excited to start integrating weather effects! We want players to experience a fully immersive world where the time of day influences rain, fog, and other weather elements.

As always, we would love to hear your comments and feedback. We want to make this system the best it can be for your projects, so let us know what features or tweaks you’d like to see.

Finally, a massive thanks to all our Patreon supporters for allowing me to do what I love. Your support keeps these systems coming, and I’m excited to continue building more awesome tools for the Unreal community!

Next week, we will take a first look at the Dialogue System!

With kind regards,

Eric Ruts
