Hey all!
Reminder: If you have previously purchased MST Pro, this will be a free add-on for you when it becomes available.
Today I would like to share the progress we’ve made on the Fishing System. We’ve taken some inspiration and popular mechanics from other games, but we’re also adding our own twists to make it unique and engaging for players. Let’s dive into the details!
State of the Fishing System
For the standard rod fishing, we were inspired by Stardew Valley’s mini game approach, where players need to manage a “catch bar” to reel in fish. We wanted that same sense of relaxation mixed with tension and excitement but tweaked a few things to keep it fresh.
We have made this system data table driven to easily manage everything from water type, fish type, bait types, catch difficulty and more. Regarding difficulty—some will dart around, while others will fight with more endurance. Our goal is to make every encounter feel unique, rather than the typical repetitive task: cast, wait, click to auto catch the fish.
We’ve also been working on spearfishing, which adds a more action-oriented twist. The player will have to aim manually, taking into account factors like water clarity and fish movement. Spearfishing will be a bit more high-risk, high-reward compared to rod fishing. We think it will be a nice change of pace and add variety for players who like more control over their fishing experience.
What’s Next?
We’ll be focusing on refining these functions and animations and making sure they work together smoothly. As always, we’re open to any comments or feedback to help improve the system before it gets into your hands. Let me know what you think of the system so far, I’m curious to hear your thoughts!
Thank you to all of the Patreon Club supporters. Your generosity and faith in our work is so greatly appreciated!
Next week, we will take a first look at the World Map, Mini Map and Compass System!
With kind regards,
Eric Ruts
